Capital Markets Malaysia is a company based in Kuala Lumpur that was set up to promote the Malaysian capital markets internationally and within the country. Navina Balasingam is its General Manager and she has a problem that needs to be resolved. Many of her key stakeholders are chief sustainability officers of large Malaysian publicly traded companies. They all have reporting requirements around sustainability. A key challenge for them is an inability to collect ESG data from their suppliers. Most suppliers in Malaysia are SME’s and they are not required to meet stock market regulations regarding sustainability reporting.
