Caroline Berube is Managing Partner of HJM Asia Law, a legal firm based in Singapore. Recently her company was engaged in negotiations where a Western based company sought to acquire three Chinese companies. After three long days of complex negotiations, the client from the Western company became frustrated, pounded his fist on the desk, raised his voice and accused the Chinese companies of presenting inaccurate information. In response the representatives of the Chinese companies immediately departed. Caroline's challenge was to figure out a path forward given this unfortunate turn of events.
